Building ossp-uuid 1.6.0 w/ bindings for PostgreSQL 8.3 beta 2 fails in 'make' w/ the following error:

  uuid.c: In function 'pg_uuid_send':
  uuid.c:203: error: 'struct varlena' has no member named 'vl_len'
  make[1]: *** [uuid.o] Error 1
  make: *** [pgsql/libuuid.so] Error 2
