To create a tag that occurs before check-in [5989], go to the root of the source tree and enter the following CVS command:

cvs rtag -D '2008-02-21 15:34:50 UTC' <tag-name> .

Be careful to include the dot (".") at the end of the line! To create a branch that occurs before the check-in, enter this command:

cvs rtag -b -D '2008-02-21 15:34:50 UTC' <branch-name> .
